Motivational Interviewing Training (Session 2)

Hosted By

Please join us for a two-day workshop that will provide participants with the foundational knowledge and skills to use Motivational Interviewing (MI) with their clients.

  • Day 1: June 17  9:00am-4:00pm

  • Day 2: June 18  9:00am-4:00pm

This two-day interactive workshop will introduce participants to the core principles and skills of Motivational Interviewing (MI), a client-centered approach that supports individuals in making meaningful life changes. MI focuses on building trust, enhancing motivation, and navigating resistance, and it can be effective in housing and homelessness services.

Led by Dr. Raymond Chip Tafrate, PhD, a clinical psychologist and expert in behavioral change, this training will blend theory with practice through case examples, group exercises, and recorded work samples. Participants will progressively develop their MI skills—from foundational techniques to more advanced strategies.

Key topics include building effective client relationships, de-escalating challenging interactions, and identifying and evoking “change language” to foster motivation. All content will be tailored to real-world scenarios involving housing and homelessness.
